In October of 1966; Huey P. Newton, along with Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense. There are so many powerful words attached to Newton’s legacy. Powerful words that describe who he was and what he stood for to many. Genius, powerful, inspiring. He was revolutionary, he fought for freedom for black people.

In February 2020, there will be a bio-pic, “Power To The People” on the life of Huey P. Newton in theaters executive produced by Mr. Courtney Benson and written and directed by award winning director, Jibril Haynes.

What Inspired, “Power To The People”?

“Power To The People” was inspired by my shear desire to enlighten my people of the rich history of Huey P. Newton & The Black Panther Party. I wanted to tell a story to show that we did  more in history than just be slaves and servants. We actually fought for our rights.

Did you have any learning experiences in the process of making the film?
I did learn something. I’ve learned “trust the process”.
What do you want your audience to learn from, “Power To The People”?
I want people to simply learn to “Think Different”.
What advice would you give those who aspire to make their dreams a reality?
Advice I would give to those trying to make their dreams a reality is to burn their boat. In other words; you’re on an island, you got to that island by way of boat. When you get off the boat, you burn it. In other words, you have no retreat now. So, whatever your doing on that island has to work… You have no where to run. You have no retreat. Point is; when you take all of the exit options out of your life, you force yourself to win at all cost.
